Liao Pai-Hsien is a contemporary artist who focuses on the transformation of traditional craft languages. Grounded in Eastern lacquer art and mother-of-pearl inlay techniques, he reinterprets the possibilities of craftsmanship within a contemporary context through in-depth research into natural materials and time-honored processes. He skillfully employs organic media such as lacquer, eggshell, and shell, translating delicate traces of handwork into a visual language rich with temporal texture, establishing profound connections between materiality and memory.
In his practice, Liao not only continues the technical lineage of traditional crafts but also extends it into landscape installations and spatial constructions. His works engage in dialogue with their environments, shaping immersive fields of experience layered with narrative and perception.
